Ten years after launching in 2004 – on the 12th of November, 2014 – Lander Philae touched down on the surface of
67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko a comet 715 million kilometers away from earth. It periodically took and sent back photos until its batteries depleted. These images are the only photos of a comets surface
in existence known to us.
I couldn't find a high-res version of
this *insane* video by twitter user landru79. I found the
original photos on ESA's Rosetta site, recreated the video sequence and improved color correction. the photos used in the sequence were taken during tea time, between 17:00:03 and 17:24:29 UTC. it's available in 1920p
on youtube.
